Encourage Yourself In The Lord

Scripture: I Samuel 30:6

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”

Have you ever been to the point of giving up? So discouraged in the world, in your life and where you were going?

Well David was there, he was greatly distressed...possible to the point of giving up, but instead of giving up David found a way to encourage himself, he turned to the one thing that he knew would save him...the LORD his God!!!

David encouraged himself by 'Praising the Lord' - David probably didn't feel like lifting his head and singing praises during this distressing time but he knew that was exactly what he needed to do. There is a popular song out titled "Praise You in this Storm" by Casting Crowns, the chorus says "I'll praise You in this storm, and I will lift my hands, for You are who You are, no matter where I am, every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand, You never left my side, and though my heart is torn, I will praise You in this storm."

When did churches stop praising God? Stop opening our hearts to hear what it is that God wants us to do? We must never be ashamed to do what God is leading us to do!

David encouraged himself in the 'Promises of God' - David remembered that discouragement is the plan of the devil, to keep him down mentally, away from his Father in Heaven. God says "If I be for you who can be against you!" Just reading Psalms 23 gives every human being the best promises of God.

And finally David encouraged himself in the 'Power of God' - I John 4:4 gives the full power of God "...because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." There is none more powerful, there is none that shows more grace and there is none that loves you more!!!

Power Point: By praying to the powers of Heaven and coming to the throne of grace you will always have the encouragement you need to conquer all things!!!
